PROJECT OVERVIEW

I create a virtual character, AI-017, and this book is about its adventure in the human world. After living with humans for 100 days, it wants to run away from this world from 3 aspects/steps.

Chapter one: Running away from daily life.
Chapter two: Running away from the digital world.
Chapter three: Running away from this world.

As this is a physical book, I add doodles and cut pages into different shapes to interact with readers and strengthen visual effects in chapters two and three. Thus, the physical version is different from the digital version. I will show videos about what these two chapters look like in real life below.

I also make a derivative work from this book about the difference between digital and physical books.

CHAPTER II: RUNNING AWAY FROM THE DIGITAL WORLD

Don't believe what you see on the Internet. Sometimes, the light through the hole will not bring you to a new world. You are still in that stalemate.

CHAPTER III: RUNNING AWAY FROM THIS WORLD

This chapter is in memory of Choi Jin-ri and Goo Hara. I created the collage based on their posts on Instagram. Suffering from severe cyber violence, these two girls committed suicide one after another in 2019. They were best friends to each other when they were alive.

The blue color represents their true self, the red color represents people on the Internet, and the collage represents their inner world. The conflict between their true self and other people never ends. Sometimes, people's words are like a knife that can tear their hearts into pieces.

Living with the will of others or living with their own wills, what is more important? These two girls paid their life for the answer. The ending sentence "잘자" is from Hara's last Instagram post before her death.

DERIVATIVE WORK

What if we hear the flipping page sound when reading digital books, and what if we hear nothing when reading physical books? Will that make the digital book feel more real or make the physical book feel more virtual?
